Doris Duke’s Shangri-La
This stunning home is an example of modernist architecture and the late Doris Duke’s tribute to Islamic art. Built from 1936-1938, Shangri-La overlooks the Pacific Ocean and Diamond Head, housing the heiress’ celebrated collection of Islamic art.
Honolulu Museum of Art
Founded in 1927, Honolulu Museum of Art is Hawaii’s oldest and largest art museum. It’s world-renowned for its exceptional collection of Asian, European, Pacific, American and African art in 30 galleries that surround six garden courtyards.
Built in 1889 by Charles Bishop as a tribute to his wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, a member of Hawaii’s royal family, Bishop Museum features the largest Asia and Pacific natural history collection in the world. It also displays ancient Hawaiian crafts and royal artifacts.
